20th Anniversary Celebrations!

Wow, has time flown by! We performed our first recital together on Nov 16, 2002 at The Juilliard School in NYC. Since then, we have:

  • Performed over 1,000 concerts together in 4 continents, 21 countries, and 43 states

  • Arranged and composed over 90 scores for piano duo

  • Created 68 music videos with over 20 million views

  • Released 6 albums (some of which spent over a dozen weeks on the Classical Billboard Charts)

To celebrate, we’re airing four special #TwoPianoTuesday livestreams to reflect on our shared history and discuss our top 20 favorite A&R music videos. The first three are available here. Join us for the final countdown this Tuesday, Nov 15 at 8:30pm EST / 5:30pm PST LIVE on YouTube and Facebook!

For those of you wanting to watch the top 20 A&R music videos in order, here’s a YouTube playlist.

And finally, and perhaps most excitingly, we’re releasing a brand new music video this Wednesday, Nov 16 (the day of our anniversary) at 3:00pm EST / noon PST! The webcast team at The Cliburn filmed us at the new Cliburn mural—“Chromesthesia” by artist DAAS—in Fort Worth, Texas as we dialed up the heat in our spicy four-hand rendition of “America” (from Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story”). We do our best to transfer the song’s rivalrous spirit to an acrobatic dance of pianistic pyrotechnics. 😏

Looking forward to the next 20 years (and seeing you this week!)!

Van Cliburn International Piano Competition 2022

Piano lovers, rejoice! The quadrennial piano olympics begin this week and promise to be chock-full of mind-blowing talent, incredible music, and hair-raising performances. The entire competition will be streamed free-of-charge and hosted, in part, by yours truly.

While co-hosting the 2017 Cliburn Competition was hugely rewarding for us, it was also exhausting. Incredibly and impressively, The Cliburn has tripled the size of the production team for the 2022 competition. Look for an entirely new webcast setup this year — more bells & whistles, hosts, and content. You’ll find us highlighting many of the behind-the-scenes activities, and Liz will be co-hosting at the anchor desk for the finals alongside Buddy Bray!

From The Cliburn:

The entire sixteenth edition of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (June 2–18, 2022) will be streamed live online from the first note to the announcement of the new 2022 gold medalist.

The Cliburn was a pioneer in the early days of webcasting, and it continues to innovate and expand this vital program as a global leader in the field; this year becoming the first classical music competition in the world to broadcast in 4K HDR.

The 2022 Competition webcast promises an even higher level of quality of sound and picture; a compelling, immersive program around the performances that gives viewers behind-the-scenes access and insightful commentary; and the widest selection of ways to watch of any classical music competition in history.

Viewership is expected to top 10 million.

Orford Musique Piano Duo Workshop

Join us in beautiful Quebec, Canada for a week of coachings, master classes, and concerts this August 7-13. It’s our first ever week-long workshop, and we look forward to using the substantive time together to share our best duo secrets, tips, and ideas!

Our 2020 workshop was disappointingly canceled due to COVID, but we’re thankful the Orford Musique Academy is back on campus this summer. To accommodate pandemic-related scheduling complications, the festival is continuing to accept applications over the coming months. Find more information here, and feel free to message us if you have any questions: andersonroe@gmail.com.

Islamey: Kaleidoscopic Fantasy for Multiple Pianos

Behold, our pandemic-era magnum opus! After a year-and-a-half of separation, we have our final made-in-isolation video to share, created entirely in our homes while separated by 3,000 miles. This kaleidoscopic fantasy rocked our socks on every level—as pianists, composers, and filmmakers—as we attempted to honor the spirit of Mily Balakirev’s pianistic Everest. Let the piano battle begin…

P.S. Today marks our 19th duo-versary!

The Cascades

While the world was sheltering in place last summer, we solicited photos, short films, and/or artwork of birds from our fans. We incorporated the submissions into a music video featuring our arrangement of “The Cascades” by the acclaimed PNW-originated band Fleet Foxes and premiered the the film during our Portland Piano International virtual extravaganza. Many thanks to all who helped make this video come to life!

For those asking: Greg’s piano is fully muted using the same mutes from our Vivaldi music video, “A Rain of Tears.”
